MOVE THE Scissors: a feng shui lesson from VardoForTwo

Feng Shui, the ancient science of placement and space based on the Chinese philosophy of attending to the elements of nature and their affect on life with ones home or office or town has been a long-time practice for me.  While we constructed and then created our tiny space which is in essence a bedroom, Feng Shui was ever present in my view.  Challenged by the sensitivities I live with, the basic "good feng shui" tenants have had to be adjusted to accomodate the reality that it is difficult or impossible (at this time) to be with some of those Feng Shui tenants or "cures."  My great-grandfather AhKoon was pure Chinese, my grandfather Amona was half Chinese.  The blood of that ancient legacy traces itself in me, so I ask the ancestors, "Help me out here!"  I've gotta make some wise adjustments to the perfect alignments because we live in a space that is lined with Metal Energy (all the stainless steel walls) and we have one of those beds that is right out of the "not so good feng shui" examples.

3.  Make sure (THE BED) is a good height. To allow for a balanced feng shui energy flow under the bed you need to have your bed at a reasonable height above the floor level. Generally, the beds that have built-in storage drawers underneath to help you with storage solutions are considered bad feng shui beds. Why? Because the energy needs to circulate around your body when you sleep, which is not possible if the space underneath the bed is blocked.
Choosing to live and design our tiny home and bedroom on wheels, we did just as described in the Wikihow article above, "...beds that have built-in storage ... underneath to help you with storage solutions are considered bad feng shui beds..."  We've been living and sleeping inside VardoForTwo since April of 2009 and as we learn to make peace from this tiny space, learn how to adjust our philosophy about being in cohousing situations, and see how to clean and clear creative solutions allow us to look again at ways to integrate wisdom such as my Chinese relations might insist upon.

In our case, two wire baskets are under the bed and serve us as clothes drawers.  They aren't built-in fortunately, and this morning I have taken my pineapple pendulum and asked for some help with sorting and clearing out the space beneath the bed.  If you don't 'swing a pendulum' just skip this part and stick to the links to other things here today.  If you do swing a pendulum you might enjoy this.  Every day I straight and sweep off the futon from the night's scrumbs and energy left from the stirrings and dreams that settle onto the bed.  It's a ritual that centered me and makes me feel aware of our homespace.  Today I knew somethings need to be done to deal with the clothes and other things that accumulate under the bed.  The real affirmation came when I moved the basket of sewing supplies I had under my head.  Included were two pair of SCISSORS ... sharp, pointy things under my head.  Is there any wonder my dreams have been sharp, wandering, stirred up and disruptive?  This morning I woke from the deepest most restoring sleep I've had in weeks.  No scissor-hands beneath me.

That New Year approaching on Sunday gives me the energy to re-store the wisdom that has worked in our lives. Wisdom adjusted with the real-time of life on Earth, we do have can be done and accept the things that can't be done (yet, or ever!)  To end this ramble I sought out one of my favorite scissor stories starring one of my all-time favorites J. Depp.  Link here to see the trailer to EDWARD SCISSORHANDS and then go practice some Feng Shui with the magic of wisdom adjusted, no adaptation here ...

My daughter and I love Johnny too!

I'm glad you found the scissors and got them away. Sharp things and poison arrows we don't need.

I wonder if mirrors or other reflective things facing out from your space might help reflect any negative or toxic airs away?

I haven't tried it with formaldehyde or laundry fumes, because I only just thought of it now, so can't say if it would be effective in any way, but it might be worth a try?

Linda,
Happy to hear we are all part of the J.P. Clan **smiles**

We (Pete, our friends and I) did a cleansing dragon dance with our pan lids and spoons in and out of the house and vardo(me only through the vardo)to clear chi and invite the new. Very fun and very invigorating. The mirrors would in deed not hurt. We have many reflective walls of stainless steel in the vardo; so perhaps it is working to an extent already.
