BUILDING THE VARDO: The door is here

This is Slim, and what a craftsman he is. He's been working on our front door and it's a beauty!
The simple lines of this solid white oak Dutch Door with a window are such a welcomed sight! We'll need to find a door knob, latch for the top piece and hardware to hold it all in place. Pete will drill out the door knob hole, fit the door for hinges, frame and hang the front door.
This is the funnest part ... practicing the 'chat and visit' position. We measured the perfect elbow height for leaning into a chat, and I think Slim got it just right. THANK YOU, SLIM.

Both sides of the door will be milk painted, and I will stencil the front of the door and then all will be waxed to seal.

Elsa, thanks. We are pretty nice folk. I haven't met Slim in person, so this picture is my first LOOK. He's just found our blog too (Pete told him he's on the front page ... he, he, so if you're visiting Slim ... I think so too ... "look like such nice people."

Nice seeing YOU here, Elsa, always. Mokihana

Some of our favorite projects have been our doors! The doors are so important to the energy of the home. I LOVE the elbow height spec-- too cute! That door is really beautiful. Slim did good. I can't wait to see the stencil! Aloha.

Susie ... the door is the entrance and will also be a kind of talk-story with the 'aole stinky visitors to the golden rose VARDOFORTWO...The stenciling will be fun, too.

Jenny ... nice to see your comment today. Thank you so much for the dear wishes of good you share with us. Mahalo, mahalo and the same goes your way to your family. Continued blessings

Aloha kakou, Mokihana and Pete

2 questions:
* Does the top of the door swing in or out?
* With such different heights between you and Pete, does the door height work for both of you?

It's a very fun idea!

Hi Anonymous,

The answers:
1. The top of the door swings out.
2. The door height is just slightly shorter than Pete is tall. He will need to dip down a little (about an inch).

We spend lots of time considering the way to build to suit our differences ...

Yah, it is a fun idea and very much the style on many vardo.
